The exceet Card Group strives to use only recycled materials for the production of payment cards in future – in line with the Mastercard Strategy 2028. By the end of 2025, almost 100 per cent of the exceet Card Group’s payment cards will be made from rPVC (recycled PVC) or rPET (recycled PET).  “By changing our payment card portfolio over to recycled materials, we are taking a further step in improving our ecological footprint,” says Robert Wolny, COO of the exceet Card Group.

In recent years, the exceet Card Group has been intensively involved in card production from recycled materials. By returning production waste to the production process, new materials for payment, access and customer cards have been developed and used for the production. In this way, hundreds of tons PVC could be reused and CO2 emissions were drastically reduced.

“Consumers expect truly sustainable solutions from their banks. As a card manufacturer, we see it as our responsibility to continuously innovate card production and we are increasingly focusing on recycled plastics,” says Uli Reutner, CEO of the exceet Card Group. “We are delighted that the majority of our bank customers, like bank99 in Austria, are already taking this step together with us,” continues Reutner.

Mastercard is supporting banks in the transition to eco-certified cards. From 2028 onwards, all newly produced Mastercard cards worldwide have to be made from sustainable materials – the exceet Card Group is already taking this step together with its bank customers. “At Mastercard, we are convinced that sustainable innovations will shape the future of the financial sector. We are therefore particularly proud to be working with partners such as the exceet Card Group to accelerate the transition to a sustainable financial world together,” says Michael Brönner, Country Manager of Mastercard Austria, explaining the collaboration.
